Whether you're about to turn 65 or already enrolled and looking to save more, this page is your friendly, step-by-step guide to understanding Medicare, and finding the cheapest and most complete plan that fits your needs.

What is Medicare?

Medicare is a trusted national health insurance program created by the government to help cover medical costs for eligible Americans. It's mainly for people aged 65 and older, but also covers some younger individuals with disabilities, and anyone with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) or ALS.

To make things simple, Medicare is organized into four key sections that cover different services:

Medicare Plans Made Simple

Explore the right Medicare option for your life with Low-Cost Health Coverage.

Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C)

All-in-one Medicare with extra benefits.

Medicare Advantage plans cover everything that Original Medicare (Part A and B) does, but they also include extras like dental, vision, hearing, and prescription drugs, all in one plan. Many have $0 monthly premiums, and they also limit how much you’ll pay out-of-pocket in a year.

It’s a great choice if you want one plan that covers almost everything and helps you save money.

Chronic Special Needs Plans (C-SNPs)

Special plans for people with long-term health conditions.

If you have a chronic condition like diabetes, heart problems, or COPD, a C-SNP may be a better fit for you. These plans include extra support, doctors who understand your condition, and drug coverage tailored to your needs.

This is a smart option if you live with a long-term illness and need specialized, affordable care.

Dual Special Needs Plans (D-SNPs)

Extra coverage for Medicare and Medicaid members.

D-SNPs are designed for individuals who qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid. These plans include medical, drug, dental, vision, and hearing coverage.

Most come with $0 monthly premiums and help managing your care, making them a great low-cost option.

Medicare Supplement Plans (Medigap)

Help paying for what Medicare doesn’t cover.

Original Medicare doesn’t cover everything, you still have to pay things like copays and deductibles. Medigap plans help fill those gaps.

They let you see any doctor who takes Medicare, anywhere in the U.S., and help reduce unexpected costs. These plans don’t include drug coverage, so you’ll need to add a Part D plan.

Prescription Drug Plans (Part D)

Help paying for your medications.

Part D plans cover the cost of prescription drugs. It can be added to Original Medicare or used with Medigap for more complete coverage.

Many have low monthly premiums and low copays. Some people may qualify for Extra Help, which makes prescriptions even more affordable.

• You qualify if you're under 65 and have been on Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) for 24+ months.
